Technology used in the buildings have become more complicated and automated. With increasing energy costs and growing indoor air quality concerns it is essential that new or rehabilitated HVAC systems operate effectively and in an economic manner. Further, to minimize maintenance costs, the system must have sustained reliability. This is why the start -up of both the individual components as well as the total system operation is crucial to deliver the benefits promised by manufacturers to the client. Today all major green building certification systems have the HVAC system commissioning as a prerequisite. However, proper system performance should be the basic requirement in every new construction and refurbishment project.

Although the design of the system is obviously of importance, a well-designed system may fail to accomplish the requirements of effectiveness, economy and sustainability unless the correct commissioning processes are planned and implemented.
